As many of you may know may already know the “Boston” Woolly Mammoth is no more due to the buildings sale and tear down this year. We announced this harsh reality to our clients months prior and allowed as many projects as possible to get started so as to be able to finish in the new location as soon as we were set up and functioning. The space itself is simply straight into the artists loft space aesthetic yet we couldn't just pile stuff in and hope for the best. First we needed good super clean Electrical feeds, after that the audio wiring from the Boston Location just seemed too circuitous and the opportunity to wire a more direct and pure signal path from the ground up thanx to Joe Pires was a no brainer. Our 8ft plus Neotek Elite was carefully transported by the Death Wish Piano movers over here and once it was in place I shipped out our complete Master section( 4 modules ) and power supply to Mike Stoica at Sytek the new owner of the Neotek Consoles Company, his work in completely refurbishing this 18 year old Grande Dame has simply astounded me in new stereo depth, detail and low end. Add all the factors together and the sonics are radically improved over our last space. The room has been carefully outfitted for ease and space and with a very lucky break in how well the listening positions are translating. In fact mixing here seems much easier than in the old control room. Plus we have added even more remote listening speakers around various points in the room and of course all kinds of diverse speaker possibilities. Now we can brag about a few new toys Rick Harte has finally sold me his Stereo Pair of Neve 2254 compressors that truly make everything Luscious in the low and top end spectrum. These compressors have been refurbished by Brent Averyl, THE Neve Specialist and when strapped across the buss with only the lightest compression it's a sonic steroid that's so addictive. Next we are happy to have acquired two “new” Universal Audio LA-3A's for more super smooth and punchy Vocals, Bass, Guitars, Kick, Snare, whatever you got. And I must also thank my friend Andrew Ward of B&W speakers for setting us up with APC power conditioners in our control room. These Smart Tech units deliver a multitude of AC filtering and conditioning. By themselves its hard to get excited about AC electrical conditioning but when you can watch these things take in current up shift or down shift voltage as needed register real time values therein and filter whatever nastiness may be hiding in the line its really kinda spooky cool! And last but not least the construction of the live room and piano “study” should commence within few weeks time .Dirty Sweaty, Physical abuse that will lead to Enhanced Sonic Eargasms Late Summer. Stay Tuned! Sir David O' Woolly |
